Yesterday

Yesterday, Sam, you kissed Papa goodbye, and told him you loved him. You have done this un-countable times in the past 3 1/2 years, but yesterday was the last time. Your Papa had cancer, and he was very brave, and very stong, but he got too sick, and the part of him that loves you, and loves Jesus, went to Heaven.
Over the past two weeks, while Papa was really sick, you cuddled, talked to, and loved on him. On the last day he was alive, you went with Tyson and Makinzie to ride four-wheelers and make s'mores. When you woke up the next day, and realized Papa wasn't in the house, we talked about Papa in Heaven and how much he loves you.
During his visitation and his funeral, you continued to love on your Papa, and charmed his family and friends. You had lots of friends to keep you occupied, and to make sure mommy and daddy weren't worried about you. Your daddy and I are so proud of how you have handled the past few weeks. Your Papa is proud, too, Samuel. Daddy, me, and all of your family will help you remember Papa.
Today, you told me that you loved for Papa to watch you ride your bike, to cuddle with him and watch cartoons, go to Branson with him, and eat the icing off his birthday cakes!

Today, Sam, when I was making an egg sandwich, you remembered that Papa made you eggs for breakfast. Yep- he did- he made some of the best breakfasts ever!
Probably a little over a month ago, he made sausage gravy, and after I ate it- he remarked that it probably would have been better if the milk he made it with wasn't sour...he didn't know the milk was bad until Uncle Jas told him. Good thing he waited until AFTER I ate to tell me, I guess!

Sam, the other night you wanted to talk about the time Papa took you to school. Yep. At the end of June, Mama, Papa, and Mama Kay came down to help us move into our new house, and to see you. They spent the night, and you went to breakfast and to Target the next day. You got to buy a new motorcycle to play with. Then, you all had lunch with me at the diner down the street from my work, and the you went to school. I am glad Papa got to see our new house and your school!

Dear Sam,
In the almost 2 months since Papa died, we continue to talk about him, and pray about him every day. The other day, I told you about the Christmas party that you went to with Papa, and how you, Tyson, Makinzie, and Papa had your picture made with Santa Claus.
Every day or two, you give me a kiss for "my daddy". Thank you for those! I miss hugs and kisses from my daddy!
The last time you were in Illinois, you left a truck at Papa's cemetary plot. You like leaving him little things, and ask when we can go back there again.
One more weekend, and we'll go to visit our Illinois family, and I am sure we'll visit Papa's "spot" too.

Sam,
Someday, if you ever read this, I just want you to know that right now, you still remember Papa. You remember him standing in the driveway watching you play and ride your bike. You love to hear stories that we remember, too.
